Emotionz – On The Up&Up – *ALBUM*

Posted in Album Reviews, Music&VIdeo, This & That on May 2, 2013 by qualitycontrolmusic

Emotionz is one of my favorite Canadian MC’s period. I don’t say this because he’s my homie either, I say this because he has a natural talent with Mc’ing and Beatboxing. Hailing from Vancouver, Bc Canada, Emotionz has performed over 1500 times through over 10 countries. His live set has become an energy filled journey through Hip Hop with its multiple genres of musical influence, Rapping, Beatboxing, Dancing and most of all spreading love on stage.

He recently teamed up with Wandering Worx Music and released “On The Up & Up”, a collection of songs depicting his current musical direction of conscious lyrics with banging beats and fun songs. Gearing up to release a few music videos in 2013, Emotionz will also be doing full tours across Canada, Europe and the U.S.

Professor Whaley “From All Angles” Album (circa 2000)

Posted in Album Reviews, Music&VIdeo, This & That on April 10, 2013 by qualitycontrolmusic

When P.Way dropped “From All Angles” in late 2000, it was hailed as one of the tightest solo albums to come out of the Bored Stiff crew or the Bay Area. Only 2000 CDs were pressed up, so this album quickly became very hard to find. Nearly ten years after its release, P. Way re-releases “From All Angles” and it is still as relevant today as it was when it first came out. From All Angles is truly innovative in terms of its sound production, lyrics, and topics, which appeal to virtually all listeners. The up-tempo Latin rhythms of “Copa Mundial” (the first hip-hop song about soccer) and the kinetic groove “Livicated” immediately grab the attention of any hip-hop fan. Songs like “Takin Over,” “@Ease,” and “Writers Block” appeal to activists without sounding so preachy that they alienate others. Big Shawn’s production is flawless. Instant classic. Must have.
Bonus track includes “Conspiracy Theory” (feat. K-Dub), one of the illest Bored Stiff songs ever.

P. Way (Professor Whaley): Artist Background

P.Way (Professor Whaley) is one of the Bay Area’s most respected underground MCs and a founding member of the legendary hip-hop group Bored Stiff. After releasing their now classic EP “Explainin'” in 1995, Bored Stiff emerged as one of the first independent hip-hop groups to pioneer an alternative to the west coast ‘gangsta’ sound, amassing hundreds of thousands of fans worldwide and write-up’s in magazines such as The Source, Vibe, URB, Thrasher, 4080, and XXL. Since then, the Bored Stiff collective has released seven albums, countless solo projects, and shared the stage with hip-hop pioneers such as Gang Starr, KRS-1, Goodie Mob, Black Sheep, De La Soul, Dialated Peoples, Blackalicious, Nas, Andre Nickatina, Living Legends, and Hieroglyphics. P.Way’s solo effort “From All Angles”, released in 2000, is still regarded as one of the best solo albums to come out of the Bay Area. Whether teaching hip-hop in schools while on tour, speaking out at Mumia protests, or rocking shows in front of 5,000 fans packed into San Francisco’s infamous Martime Hall, P.Way has been in the game for nearly 15 years, making good music and a difference in the world.

Tommy Hampton – Palos Verdes Blues Album & “Sleep” *Video*

Posted in Album Reviews, Music&VIdeo, This & That on May 30, 2012 by qualitycontrolmusic

Whats up ya’ll, Aries here with another Blawgy Blog Post. This time were focusing on a good homie of mine. Mr. Tommy Hampton. I first met Tommy back in the early 2000’s when he was an active member of the Local Regina Hip Hop Crew “Topwise”. Ive always been a fan of his music in one way or another. He has a unique vocal style that is hard to compare to anyone. If i was to say he sounded like someone i would say DMX…Who happens to be one of my favorite Rappers ever, (even tho hes kinda crazy these days).

Tommy can rap, sing, play a few instruments, and is an all around musical guy. He showcases all of these skills on his new Album “Palos Verdes Blues”. The whole Album is Produced by Regina beat maker Ak, who brought a lot of dope beats to the table for this project. The Album is a really “personal” one for Tommy as its basically a “tell all” tale from the past 2 years of his life which involved a lot of ups and downs (to make a long story short). The Album features a few really dark tracks, a few traditional hip hop style tracks and even some newer sounding club style/commercial rap tracks. There’s a little something for everyone on this album and its a good offering for a Debut Album from Tommy. The Video for “Sleep” just dropped today. you can view it below along with links to grab a copy of Palos Verdes Blues.

Posted in Album Reviews, Music&VIdeo, This & That on May 22, 2012 by qualitycontrolmusic

Whats up everyone!?, I’ve been waiting for this one!!

(Canada – May 15th, 2012) – It was only 12 months ago that the Canadian Music Industry awarded Elaine Lil’Bit Shepherd with the Juno for “Reggae Recording of the Year”. With high anticipation, Vancouver based singer Lil’Bit has released her debut album entitled “MOVE YA”. The album was produced by the legendary John Forbes, who founded the 70’s group Chalawa, and was mastered by JT Edmondson at Paranoyd Studio where Shepherd recorded her EP “Lady In The Streets”. It features the works of talented fellow musicians Matthew Reid, Richard Brown, Andycakes, Dylan Munro, DJ Graham Morley & Shugarboy, Nikhilesh Nayar, Devon Martin and more. It also includes her Juno winning single, “Likkle But Mi Tallawah”, and a rendition of the Peaches & Herb classic “Four’s A Traffic Jam” Ft. Tinga Stewart and co-produced by the highly respected Glen Ricketts. “MOVE YA” is a 12 track cross-genre album that is rooted in Reggae and is infused with the sounds of R&B, Soft Rock, Disco, Jazz and Adult Contemporary.

In the Canadian music industry, only a few Reggae singers have gained acclamation and success. Born in Bahrain with a multicultural background, Shepherd is one of the leading Reggae artists in Canada with highly successful songs such as “Lady In The Streets”, “Dignified Woman”, and the 2011 Marijuana Music Awarded single “Sensimilla”. In 2009 she released her EP entitled “Lady In The Streets”, which hit the music charts across the globe. Due to the success achieved by this young artist in such a short time, she was quickly recognized and welcomed as a “Celebrity Judge” to the Shaw TV Urban Star Contest. Immediately her personality was adored by many of the viewing fans who started making demands for music and for performances in their cities. As her fans continue to grow and her musical direction expands, she has crossed genres and released a number of collaborative singles into the market. Stay Tuned….
